total price paid = 170 + 10.2 = $180.20
% tax = 10.2/170 x 100 = 6%

The sales tax equation is:

price * rate = tax

With your numbers:

$170 * rate = $10.20
rate = $10.20 / $170
rate = 0.06
rate = 6%

The total price is just the original price plus the tax:

total = price + tax
total = $170 + 10.20
total = $180.20

Tthe sales tax rate is 10.20/170 as a percentage. I will let you do the arithmetic.

The total amount paid is so easy that I will let you do it.

Sales tax rate = 10.2/170 * 100 = 6%

Total amount paid = $180.20

The rate is 6 cents per dollar (6¢ / $1)
and the total cost is $190.20 (total paid = $190.20)

The rate is 6 cents per dollar (6¢ / $1)
and the total cost is $190.20 (total paid = $190.20)
the sales tax rate is 5.9% and the total price paid is $180.12.
