Contact all 3 credit agencies and put a Fraud Alert on them. It will state something to the effect of
"Possible fraud, Please do not extend credit without personally contacting me at 555-55-5555 (Your phone number) Make sure that you will have that phone number for a long time. This will make it difficult for you to get any type of instant or store credit, but it will stop the family memeber from getting credit in your name.
You can file a police report, however it is unlikely they will do much about it. Too widespread of a problem.

You can contact SSA to see about being issued a new number. This is not an easy process and you must have overwhelming proof that you have been substantially affected by credit fraud. Need a big paper trail in support.

If you have any proof, then go to the police and press charges...from Identity theft to fraud.

Next you will need to contact the major credit reporting agencies. You can put a note on your account and flag it. This way no one will be able to get any credit in your name. Plus anyone seeking a credit report on you will see the note.

Next if you have proof of the Identity theft, then the social security administration can issue you another social security number. Your old number will be linked with the new one, but your relative who is doing this will not have access to the new number.

I believe if it's a relative you're allowed to pound the crap out of them.

Seriously though, turn them in to the cops. I think identity theft warrants the death penalty.

Ask them to stop because it is classed as identity fraud. If they don't even though they are family report them, cause if they do something and it goes wrong, you will be the one in trouble.
